Pickathon's Full 2015 Lineup Announced: Updated

Last year, Pickathon, Portland's best small-scale music festival, seemed to learn a valuable lesson. After flirting with bigger-name headliners, the festival went back to a broader lineup of mostly smaller acts, interspersing Pitchfork-approved indie-rockers with the Americana artists that once made up the bulk of the weekend, and seemed to find a new audience. As I said in our report on the 2014 installment, so many people I talked to last year said it was their first time attending.

This morning, Pickathon rolled out its first wave of acts for 2015, and it seems to be adhering to that headliner-less formula. If none of the bands listed below would make the top lines of the promo posters for Coachella or Sasquatch, nearly all of them would sound amazing in a barn or in the woods, which at this point is pretty much the only criteria. The highlights include art-pop visionary Tune-Yards; African desert-blues ensemble Tinariwen, Dom Flemons, formerly of old-time string band Carolina Chocolate Drops; Sudanese funkateer Sinkane; and return engagements from garage-rocker Ty Segall and obtuse rap duo Shabazz Palaces. 

Pickathon takes place July 31-Aug 2 at Pendarvis Farm in Happy Valley. Tickets are now on sale, and you can get them here. More artists are expected to be announced in the coming weeks, and we will update this post according.
