Voodoo Doughnut to Open in Los Angeles

Portland’s own souvenir doughnuts finally make their way to the souvenir-heavy strip of Universal Studios.

The pink-boxed, cereal-encrusted buns that helped theme-park-ify Portland will finally be available for purchase in an actual theme park.

According to the Oregonian, Voodoo Doughnut announced they will open up shop at Universal Studios in Los Angeles, during the extremely politically-significant mayoral doughnut eating contest at Voodoo's downtown Portland location last Friday night.

Voodoo was originally approached to be a part of Universal's Harry Potter-themed area, but ended up securing a spot on the CityWalk — the entertainment and retail district located adjacent to the theme park areas of Universal Parks and Resorts.

With most attractions along CityWalk closing up between 9 pm and 11 pm, this could be the first Voodoo not to stay open 24-hours a day.

Most excitingly, though, is that Mario Lopez will finally be able to eat Voodoo doughnuts every single day (if he wants to). The new location is said to be opening near where Lopez films the show, "Extra."

Kenneth Pogson, the co-owner of Voodoo Doughnut, told the Oregonian that the shop will probably be open around Halloween, just in time to start serving up doughnuts to attendees of Universal's new Walking Dead attraction.

Voodoo should fit right in with novelty shops along the CityWalk strip and will probably continue to spread farther and farther outside of Portland as the quirky alternative to cheap doughnut shops like Dunkin Donuts in years to come. Just imagine: one day, America could run on Voodoo magic and not on Dunkin.
