Now that dogs are getting acupuncture, there's a space open for chickens to move up from incubators to actual trainable pets. Thanks to Chicken Camp PDX, a four day class in April, your chicken will cross the road because you told it to.
Synergy Behavior Solutions, a veterinary clinic and pet training center, will offer the camp with host Terry Ryan, who developed chicken training in the early 1990s to help people learn to train dogs better.
If you sign up before Feb. 1, you can get the early bird (literally) price of $675 for a working spot or $350 for an auditing spot. After Feb. 1, prices fly (though taking this class will not teach your chicken how to) to $725 for a working spot or $400 to audit.
Even just reading the camp description gives us valuable information to pull out on Tinder dates: "The average chicken is faster than the average dog" and "some chickens will freeze or fly if they don't like the way you are training them." Even if you don't want a trained chicken, you might consider taking the workshop as self-confidence booster. As Synergy points out, "If you can train a chicken, you can train anything."
If you're unsure about the curriculum, Dr. Sophia Yin, a veterinarian who specializes in behavior modification, created a chicken training video in 2002, which is footage of a girl with blue hair watching her chicken knock down bowling pins to an Enya song. You can block out the rest of your day and watch it here.
