The farmhouse-inspired brewery putting a Pacific Northwest spin on French and Belgian styles turns 10 this year, and the Four Hands saison was named second-best brew in WW's 2019 Beer Guide. The brewery is named for the bass of jazz icon Charles Mingus, whose compositions themselves defied categorization. Not one to be put in a box, founder Alex Ganum also co-owns the refined pubstaurant and unnoffical Upright outpost Grain & Gristle (1475 NE Prescott St., where you can complement the brews with a perfectly charred beef kielbasa or smoked pork shoulder.
