Miss Out on Last Week's Best New Band Showcase? Here's What It Was Like

Check video and photos from our most eclectic lineup ever.

Last Friday night, Willamette Week held its annual Best New Band Showcase at Mississippi Studios, featuring four of the top 10 groups from our annual poll of local music experts. We can confidently say it was the most diverse lineup yet, with sets ranging from the politically charged St. Johns rapper Mic Capes to the elegantly wasted Boone Howard, the psychedelic star-tripping of Cat Hoch to Chanti Darling's vintage R&B dance party.

Did you miss out? No worries—we had videographer Dustin Tolman there to document the night. Check out his video below, along with Thomas Teal's photos.

Matthew Singer

A native Southern Californian, former Arts & Culture Editor Matthew Singer ruined Portland by coming here in 2008. He is an advocate for the canonization of the Fishbone and Oingo Boingo discographies, believes pro-wrestling is a serious art form and roots for the Lakers. Fortunately, he left Portland for Tucson, Arizona, in 2021.

Willamette Week’s reporting has concrete impacts that change laws, force action from civic leaders, and drive compromised politicians from public office.
