A Newly Released 911 Recording Supports Viral Story About Security Kicking Black Guest Out of Portland Hotel

The caller described Jermaine Massey, who paid for a room at the DoubleTree Hotel: "African American male, wearing all black. He’s got his cell phone out recording us."

A newly released 911 call between a hotel employee and a dispatcher confirms details about a viral video that showed a black man questioned by a security guard and ultimately kicked out of the DoubleTree Hotel in Portland.

The tape, obtained by WW via a public records request, shows that an employee called the police on Jermaine Massey, 34, who had paid for a room in the hotel. Massey says he had been on the phone with his mother in the hotel lobby when the security guard approached him and began questioning him.

The employee who called 911 described Massey as an "African American male, wearing all black. He's got his cell phone out recording us." Twice the caller told dispatch Massey did not have any weapons and was just "arguing" with a security guard.

The DoubleTree Hotel, which is owned by Hilton, later apologized and fired the security guard and employee involved in the incident.

Below is a transcript of the call:
