Brew Views: Kiss Kiss Bang Bang

No Shit, Sherlock

KISS KISS BANG BANG

It tends to confirm one's more churlish suspicions of the world that Robert Downey Jr. had to don a British accent and a steampunk gimmick to become a hit detective, when he all but perfected the art four years prior in Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. Still, to cheer up, one need only watch Kiss Kiss Bang Bang—it must be the most joyful noir ever made. It's almost a screwball comedy with guns, floating on the buzz of Shane Black's motormouth script and the twinkle in Michelle Monaghan's eye. Even its self-awareness games, usually a sign of bored superiority, feel like a fond hug to genre film. Laurelhurst.
