Wyden and Schrader Top the List of Oregon's Wealthiest Members of Congress

Sen. Ron Wyden

The Center for Responsive Politics last week ranked the richest members of Congress with an estimate of each member's net worth. The Washington, D.C.-based watchdog group compiled its list from the annual financial disclosure forms filed by senators and representatives. The forms are fairly detailed but also allow members to list a wide range in the value of assets and liabilities.

Sen. Ron Wyden's disclosure form, for instance, puts his net worth is somewhere between $5.7 million and $8 million. The average between the two points—$6.8 million—places Wyden 74th among the 535 members of the House and Senate. He's followed closely by U.S. Rep. Kurt Schrader ($6.4 million, 79th place) and U.S. Rep. Earl Blumenauer ($4.9 million, 100th place).

Rounding out the Oregon delegation are U.S. Rep. Greg Walden ($3.0 million, 146th place); U.S. Rep. Peter DeFazio ($2.1 million, 176th place) and U.S. Sen. Jeff Merkley ($1.6 million, 206th place). Across the Columbia River, U.S. Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler who represents Clark County, could use some financial pointers from her Oregon colleagues ($8,000, 500th place).
