The Grateful Dead playing the Crystal Ballroom on July 3 and 5 (...via satellite!)

47 years after the Dead last played the Crystal, Fare Thee Well shows to be shown live.

It's been a long time since The Grateful Dead last played the Crystal Ballroom.

Well, 47 years after the Dead's February 2, 1968 show at Portland's famous bouncy-floored ballroom the Dead are coming back live...via satellite!

The last-ever Dead shows are happening in Chicago this summer, and McMenamins has arranged to show the Fare Thee Well concerts on July 3, 4 and 5. The July 3 and 5 shows are happening at the Crystal while the July 4 show, possibly a smaller affair given the evening's other festivities, will be at the Mission Theater.

If you're in town on July 3, this is the place to be.

Being anywhere else would, quite frankly, be foolish.

Chances are you have the day off work, weed will be legal and the Crystal has a projector that's up to the challenges of streaming this thing.

You can buy tickets in advance for just $8 here.

And here's what McMenamins has to say about the venue and projector.

Need a little something else to get excited? Here's a streamable bootleg of the Dead's previous show at the Crystal, from 1968.
