This Week In Beer: 99 Oregon Beers Walk Into a Bar

The Portland Craft Beer Festival, Loyal Legion sneak preview and more!

Thursday, July 2

Gigantic SOLID! Release and Lardo Pairing

Gigantic and Lardo pair up to release SOLID!, a hoppy American wheat beer. A 6-percent ale brewed with fresh orange peel, it should fit nicely into the growing citrus-freak beer camp. No word yet on the custom sandwich Lardo plans to develop for pairing with this tasty brew, but, given its history with meat, cheese, and bread, we expect a tasty compliment to Southeast Portland’s new brew. PARKER HALL. Lardo PDX, 1212 SE Hawthorne Blvd. 5 pm.

Finn River Cidery Invades Reverend Nat’s

Washington juice on Oregon taps—Four Finn River ciders invade the list at Reverend Nat’s tonight in all their Cascadian glory. With apple wines ranging from complex and wild-fermented to smooth and oak-aged, it should be a night full of excellent discoveries—and whoever thought of blending Reverend Nat’s Tepache with Finn River’s Black Currant cider is both mad and a genius. PH. Reverend Nat’s, 1813 NE 2nd Ave. 4 pm.

Friday, July 3

Portland Craft Beer Festival

We’ve got more breweries than any city in the world—so why stray? The first Portland Craft Beer Festival’s going full-on nativist, hosting breweries from Portland and only from Portland.  A whopping 46 of them, with over 20 IPAs and even more Belgians and sours. A few ciders will be around from Reverend Nat’s and Cider Riot, as well as some local cheeses. but mostly? Beer. Portland beer. In every possible form. MATTHEW KORFHAGE. The Fields Neighborhood Park, 1099 NW Overton St., portlandcraftbeerfestival.com. 4 pm Friday, July 3, noon Saturday and Sunday, July 4 and 5. $20 for a glass and 10-15 drink tickets.

Loyal Legion Beer Hall Sneak Peak

99 problems, but local ain’t one. When the Loyal Legion officially opens to the public on July 8, it will host the largest on-tap selection of Oregon-brewed beers and ciders in the world. The new taphouse, famed local restaurateur Kurt Huffman’s latest beer-related project, is open tonight in typical sneak-preview mode—with Olympia Provisions charcuterie and Philippe's Bread. Don’t fear, rubberneckers—tours of the renovated Portland Police Athletic Association building will be available with your pints. PH. Loyal Legion Beer Hall, 706 SE 6th Ave. 6 pm. $15.

Gigantic Oyster Social Fridays

Every Friday in July, Gigantic Brewing hosts Oyster Social, a mobile oyster bar catering to the city’s biggest lovers of shucked shells. For $2 a pop, have your fill of freshly caught goodness with tangy local cocktail sauce to boot. PH. Gigantic Brewing Company, 5224 SE 26th Ave. 5-7 pm.

No-Li First Friday Tap Attack

No-Li Brewing brings six kegs from Spokane to Southeast Portland this Friday, as part of the Sellwood Public House’s first friday Tap Attack series. Ranging from an American strong ale called Brass Monkey, to a blond ale called Poser, there should be something here for everyone. PH. Sellwood Public House, 8132 SE 13th Ave. 7 pm.
