Sizzle Pie Shrinks to Just Two Locations

At its peak, the pizza chain had slice shops in New York, Seattle, Eugene and across Portland and Beaverton.

The Pie Hole is shut, at least temporarily. Sizzle Pie will no longer be the pizza purveyor for the Hollywood Theatre as of Oct. 17. The Pie Hole—the pizza vendor window alongside the cinema’s lobby—will be open only sporadically between now and the final day of service, the historic Northeast Portland theater recently wrote on Instagram.

This also marks the end of the Hollywood location of Sizzle Pie, a Northeast Sandy Boulevard–facing storefront attached to the theater, according to Hollywood Theatre spokeswoman Destynee Norwood. The theater is the landlord of the space and confirms that Sizzle Pie has ended its tenancy there.

This closure brings Sizzle Pie locations down to only the 949 SW Oak St. restaurant downtown (with the brand’s Quality Bar on the same block) and the Portland International Airport slice shop.

It’s quite a contraction for a chain that a few years ago had expanded to New York, Seattle, Reno, Eugene and about half a dozen spots across Portland and Beaverton.

Sizzle Pie is owned by private equity firm SoHi Brands (formerly Sortis Holdings), a group that, during a pandemic shopping spree, amassed a portfolio of local businesses that includes Ava Gene’s and Tusk parent company Submarine Hospitality, Bamboo Sushi, Rudy’s Barbershop and See See Motor Coffee, among others.

SoHi and Sizzle Pie did not respond to multiple phone and email requests for comment on the closure.

In 2025, SoHi closed the original East Burnside Street location of Sizzle Pie one month after employees voted to form a union. The company told The Oregonian that the closure wasn’t due to the union drive but an inability to reach a lease agreement with the landlord.

Sizzle Pie was founded in 2011 by Matt Jacobson and Mikey McKennedy and became popular for its late-night hours and vegan menu options.

Norwood says the Hollywood Theatre has chosen Sizzle Pie’s successor for the Pie Hole but is not ready to announce it yet.
