Cheese Bar: Dairy King

CHEESE BAR

Cheese Bar
(6031 SE Belmont St., 222-6014, cheese-bar.com)

is only subordinately a deli; as the name implies, it's primarily a bar that sells cheese—250 different kinds, in fact. But the food alone is worth a trip: Try the strata ($7), a savory bread pudding packed with a rotating cast of seasonal vegetables and, yes, jack cheese. It's served in a pub with paintings that look like the insides of Decemberists songs (oh, see the whale a-drinking from the tap in the oak!). With more than 60 bottled beers—Oregon obscurities include Long Kolsch, Billy the Mountain Old Ale and Hopworks Ace of Spades—to pair with that creamy burrata pouch, Cheese Bar is the perfect spot to take your date after a Mount Tabor sunset, especially since it stays open till 11 pm. Of course, it will help if said date likes cheese.
