Bar Guide 2015: Civic Taproom & Bottle Shop

621 SW 19th Ave., 477-4621, thecivictaproom.com. Noon-midnight daily.

While a lot of bottle shops from Apex to Bailey's will make a point of scooting a cider or two somewhere into their tap lists, the spartan Civic Taproom places cider front and center as its first six taps, from hopped to pear to semi-sweet, with special allowances to Cider Riot—the Timbers fans' cider of choice. There are also four wine taps. And, oh yeah, 12 beer taps, two of which nitros—recently ranging from the similarly Timbers-themed Kick Axe to multiple Payettes and a pair of triples from both old- and New Belgium. Not to mention weekly tap takeovers. Meanwhile, the bar has entrusted their kitchen to the neighboring Boise Fry Company, which serves a bewildering assortment of fries and dips from russet, purple, gold, sweet, Okinawa or yam (deep breath) shaped into shoestring, regular, homestyle or curly fries, or into balls. Lately, the drinks are keeping pace with this variety.

Happy hour: 3-6 pm daily, all day Monday. $1 off taps.
