Bar Guide 2015: The Know

2026 NE Alberta St., 473-8729, theknowpdx.com. 3 pm-2:30 am daily.

A ramshackle, graffitied, dirt-cheap drinking hole that has become Portland's most reliable home of punk and hard rock, the Know is Alberta Street's final hold on what it was 10 years ago, when the bar began: a place of bohemian punk-rockers and clown houses amid the still-extant African-American and Latino communities of Northeast Portland. Pray it survives amid the Salt & Straws and Little Big Burgers after the end of its lease in a year. In the meantime, enjoy some of the only karaoke in Portland in which beer cans are thrown at a singer who appreciates the gesture, occasional left-field shows like Jonathan Richman—who fell in love with the place—and scuzzbuckets of all stripes. God bless.

Happy hour: 4-7 pm daily.  $1.50 PBR, Hamm's and Rainier tallboys.

Entertainment: Punk fuckin' rock, in a room to the side. Also karaoke.
