CONSUMER WHORE: UNIQLO Meets PORTLAND

Come to expect some solid collaborations happening at the Ace Cleaners (the stylish Ace Hotel's adjacent event space) in the forthcoming months. First one up is a mélange of art and fashion, with a five-day exhibition featuring the work of 11 prominent Northwest artists and designers commissioned by the Ace to create limited edition Uniqlo t-shirts inspired by travel. (Yes, that's Uniqlo, of the funky, super-bright, mix and match designs, exclusively available in NYC, London and Japan).

The distinctive roster includes Evan B Harris, Justin Morrison, Sarah Gottesdiener, Brent Wick, Liza Rietz, Storm Tharpe, David Kaul, Shawn Wolfe, Amy Ruppel and Philip Iosca. The gallery, titled Portland Loves Japan—The Art of Travel will run from September 28th through October 2nd for viewing between 11 am and 7 pm. Most of the works will be for sale by these notable artists. What's so cool about this collaboration is that Portland is contributing to the efforts and vision of Uniqlo's "futuristic convenience store for t-shirts," a whole new concept design called UT (Uniqlo T-shirt) dedicated solely to the simplicity and artfulness of the ubiquitous tee. Check it out.
