Farina Macaron and Pastry Shop Opening November 6

Portland's best macaron maker at last opens on Hawthorne Boulevard

Our favorite macaron-maker in town—as resoundingly chosen in a blind taste test in March—will at long last open up Farina Bakery at 1852 SE Hawthorne Blvd. on Thursday, November 6.

That day will mark the 5th anniversary of the day baker Laura Farina arrived in Portland, where she once made pastries at popular Pearl District macaron bar Nuvrei. But she made her own Farina macarons only in the KitchenCru commissary kitchen; the casual grazer could find her treats only in other shops such as Moonstruck, Sterling Coffee Roasters and—apparently—Umpqua Bank.

In the new storefront bakery, Farina will expand her offerings from the delicate egg-white pastries, writing that the new bakery will serve "muffins (banana, blueberry), pumpkin cinnamon sticky buns, orange cranberry scones, coconut pastries, seasonal hand pies, tarts, and Danishes, cookies (ginger molasses, oatmeal, chocolate chip), cheddar chive biscuit, cupcakes—one spiced, another chocolate (and maybe one big cake every once in and while)—and...macarons!"

Here's a photo of the work in progress from Farina Bakery's Facebook page:
