Inside Higher Ed on Monday had a story about a sexual harassment allegation that has roiled the Reed College campus in recent weeks.
Andrea Hendrickson, an admissions officer at Reed, quit on Nov. 4 after college officials cleared a supervisor, Vice President of Admission and Financial Aid Milyon Trulove, of a sexual harassment claim she brought against him.
That didn't quell anger among students, according to Reed's student newspaper, The Quest. In fact, it grew.
"Uncertainty surrounding the alleged incident of sexual harassment, the rationale for the finding, and the actions taken by the administration has created an atmosphere of mistrust and helplessness for students who work in the Admission Office," the newspaper reported.
Last week, students staged a sit-in outside President John Kroger's office to demand a new process for evaluating misconduct by staff.
Kroger responded to the controversy in a letter to the student newspaper on Dec. 5. He suggested he could be open to reforms. "I think the current process is fair, rigorous, and appropriate," he wrote. "One can, however, imagine other arrangements."
Reed students have taken their complaints to Twitter where they're using the hashtag #outofrespect.
