SoKongDong Tofu

2850 SE 82nd Ave., Suite 11, 808-9990, sokongdong.net. Lunch and dinner daily.

Beaverton might be the capital of local Korean food, but for eastsiders, the Fubonn shopping center is a much more accessible option. The japchae ($8.95), a plate of potato noodles with beef and vegetables, is listed as an appetizer but could fill most stomachs happily. As the restaurant's name suggests, you can wave in tofu dishes by the dozen or stick to standards such as the thinly sliced beef bulgogi ($17.95)—good enough to feed two, including a hungry teen—or bibimbab ($9.95), rice with beef, vegetables and kimchi. As Korean television flickers silently in the background and the enticing smell of charring meat, tofu and vegetables wafts from the table-top grills, you'll forget all about Beaverton.
