Backwoods is on the back side of a nondescript building off Carson's main drag, and cheerfully protected by a chainlink fence. Think country-fried beer garden, nestled on the edge of lumber country. Twelve beers on tap compose a wide range at this rapidly growing brewery's taproom, making for a something-for-everyone selection: There's Pecan Pie Porter for the sweet tooth (pair it with a house cupcake) or Surprise Sour for fans of lemony kettle sours, plus a trio of hoppy beers in various strengths. For now, a pizza kitchen takes care of the food, and the brewhouse is in plain sight behind the bar. Enjoy the taproom's rural setting now and for the foreseeable future, but Backwoods will soon move its brewery to a new site at the Port of Skamania in Stevenson, and expand into full production.
Drink This: With a wide selection of ales on tap, there's plenty to taste, but when the Russian Imperial Stout is pouring from the nitro tap, it's a silky, smooth and warming pleasure.
