They expect another 20 bars to join the coalition by Monday.

Earlier this week, WW reported that several Portland-area bars were planning an informal “Vaxx Coalition” of establishments that would collectively agree to require vaccination proof at the door, for those wanting to sit inside.

This afternoon, the coalition released a list of 15 participating bars. But Teardrop Lounge owner Daniel Shoemaker says there are another 20 “in the wings” that need to organize their staff or partners around the idea and plan logistics. He expects the list to double by Monday.

The announcement arrives amid the rise of Delta variant cases, and follows similar guilds in San Francisco and Seattle.

In other U.S. cities, governments have required proof of vaccination for bar patrons. New York City passed a mandate that patrons wishing to enter indoor restaurants, gyms and performance spaces would need to show proof of vaccination, starting Aug. 16. Los Angeles officials are also considering a policy that would ask for proof of at least one vaccination dose to enter indoor businesses.

In addition to the businesses on this list, several other Portland venues and bars have made statements about their intentions to require proof of vaccination.

Hey Love, the cocktail lounge in the Jupiter Next Hotel, announced it would require vaccination proof for indoor service on Aug. 4. Mississippi Studios, and the attached Bar Bar, will require “proof of vaccination or negative COVID test within 48 hours” for entry. But they’re also offering free, onsite “rapid” antigen tests to guests that can’t show proof of COVID-19 vaccination. The same policy is in place at Revolution Hall.
