Cut of the Day: Radiation City, "Juicy"

No, it's not a Biggie cover.

"It was all a dream, I used to read Asimov's Science Fiction magazine…"

That is not, in fact, a line from Radiation City's new single, nor does the song have anything to do with the Notorious B.I.G.'s "Juicy." It does, however, have a bit of a robotic feel, placing it in line with the vague sci-fi themes of the band's long-awaited new album, Synesthetica. The beloved indie-pop group—our top-polling Best New Band of 2012—has always had a "space-age bachelor pad" thing going on, but this new joint, with its blippity android sounds and mechanized midtempo groove, indicates a move toward high-concept YACHT territory, albeit with glammier guitars and poppier melodies. They confirmed as much to Nylon, which premiered the track, saying "Synesthetica is a place we envision being free of judgment and open to multi-sensory exploration. It's also our homage to Mid-Century sci-fi."

Synesthetica is out Feb. 12, 2016, with a Portland release show scheduled for March 19 at Mississippi Studios. You can preorder the album here.
