Jessica Vega Pederson Names Chief of Staff for Multnomah County Post

Commissioner-elect says she'll focus on issues of housing, transportation and equity.

Multnomah County Commissioner-elect Jessica Vega Pederson on Monday named an employee from the county's government relations department as her chief of staff.

Chris Fick, deputy director of government relations at the county, also used to work as a lobbyist for the League of Oregon Cities.

Vega Pederson, who won the seat representing Southeast Portland in May, also named a staffer from Vega Pederson's legislative office, Ana del Rocío Valderrama, as policy director.

Vega Pederson served two terms in the Oregon House before running for the post to replace Commissioner Judy Shiprack, who's been term-limited out.

"I'm fortunate to have an experienced and talented team in place so that we're ready to start with momentum," Vega Pederson wrote in a statement Monday. "We have to tackle the big challenges in Multnomah County – access to housing, ensuring a safe and effective transportation system and building equitable and sustainable communities. My team's values and track record align with those goals, and we're looking forward to getting to work."
