Pete Krebs Week: Q&A Part Three of Five.

So Sweet Ona Rose, which is probably my favorite Pete Krebs album. Of course, it's not really a solo album because you're playing with the Gossamer Wings. Where did that band name come from, by the way?
And the band name is sort of a staple name for a rotating group of artists.
So this is the first one recorded outside of a basement.
Where did you get the idea to use a horn section, is that something you'd been kicking around for awhile?
Did you know how to instruct the players?
Do you read music?
How does that effect your teaching guitar?
Because maybe you feel it more than–
Backtracking a bit, when did the last Hazel album come out?
You don't have to sell it?
But in contrast to what happened with Hazel, and finding reasonably immediate success, this must feel like a different game.
I want to talk about “Hey Mr. Smalltown.” Because it's kind of a punk rock song wrapped in Pete Krebs.
“Just give me something that I can believe in” sounds like a Clash line or something.
This one pops. And it's a great bassline.
Where'd the name Sweet Ona Rose come from?
Did that relationship color the album?
Patiently is the other song that really stands out to me.
Yeah!
That's one thing that I think makes them relatable, too. Is this your guitar on the front?
How did you get into tattooing?
Moreso than the art?
You've had some interesting jobs? What else have you done.
Those are all jobs that take a lot of patience.
But when you were a kid you blew stuff up.
I keep coming back to this, but there's really a leap in confidence, vocally, between these albums.
Bittersweet Valentines
I Know it by Heart
Was it going to come out on Cavity Search?
I Know it by Heart
Do you like those tunes?
Then that's probably the best thing you can do.
I keep wondering when the next album will come out.
A Pete Krebs jazz record as opposed to the Stolen Sweets? [EDITOR'S NOTE: Since this interview, Pete has started playing regularly with the Pete Krebs Trio, his jazz outfit.]
You want to sing and play?
Do you feel like you'll come back to pop music? I use ‘pop' loosely.
Why?
Well, it's just interesting, because any time I play one of these albums for somebody, they are like ‘oh my god,' and they didn't know about you. They know Hazel or another project, but they haven't heard the solo stuff. It just seems like exposure, on some level, was the problem.
Did you have other offers?
Were you relieved when your promotional efforts for Sweet Ona Rose fell through?
Sweet Ona Rose
I Know it by Heart
And at the same time, that's where your heart was leading you, too. That doesn't seem like selling out at all. It's just–
And it was all stuff that you could feel good about that way, instead of having to push something that you didn't feel?
