EXCLUSIVE: Fall Into Darkness 2012 Unveils Lineup

Wolvserpent

We here at Local Cut fully cop to the fact that we had the inside track on this announcement. The organizer of the annual celebration of the dark musical arts that is Fall Into Darkness is one Nathan Carson, a regular freelancer for our music section.

But let's be clear here: we would be salivating all over this news if we knew Nathan or not. Because of his connections in the worldwide metal scene, he's been able to book some jaw-dropping talent for his yearly festival. Who could forget SunnO))) shorting out the sound system at Berbati's multiple times during their epic 2008 appearance? Or Rachel Carns of the Need whipping off her shirt in 2010 to boldly reveal her double mastectomy scars?

The 2012 edition will have its share of memorable moments if this lineup—which we are premiering here on Local Cut today—is any indication. The weekend of shows features a healthy smattering of locals (prog-metal hybrid Aranya, space wailers Eight Bells) and top tier talent from outside the city, including Bay Area dark ambient group Worm Ouroboros and Seattle's doom merchants Bell Witch. The big names? Well, there's the long-running metal pioneers Saint Vitus, dronesters Wolvserpent, and a secret band VHÖL - a new project featuring Mike Scheidt of YOB and members of Hammers of Misfortune - performing a set on Sunday that is guaranteed to knock your socks on your ass.

And you know what's extra special about this festival—for this blogger, anyway—the lineup swipes aside that notion of metal being a man's game. A full half of the bands playing featuring women prominently in their lineups. Bad. Ass.

Here's the full line-up for the weekend fest. Clear your calendar, remember to hydrate, and please pace yourself. You won't want to miss a second of this.
