Tina Kotek Draws a Primary Opponent

Joe Rowe

House Speaker Tina Kotek (D-North Portland) will have at least one opponent in the May primary.

Joe Rowe, a North Portland teacher and activist, said today that he'll challenge Kotek, a four-term incumbent.

In a statement announcing his candidacy, Rowe made it clear he will try to make Kotek's staunch support for the proposed Columbia River Crossing project an issue in the primary. Rowe cited the support of two of the project's leading critics, Jim Howell and Ron Buel.
