â I called Beyonda an artist to watch in 2014, so go ahead and watch her. Though sheâs got talents beyond being simply a soul DJ, her elbow-deep cuts and masterful selection make every second Thursday at Holocene special. Donât you just know it? (8 pm, $3, 21+)
â For all Simon Posfordâs gifts of producing and DJing freak-psych-trance-hop, his real gift is that of marketing. Shpongle shows are no mere concerts, they are events âpresentedâ by Posford, briefly prepackaged forays into county Black Rock. His 2014 tour presents the Shpongletron 3.0, a sculpture of crystals and eyeballs with trip-enhancing visuals projected thither. Itâs $22 for Saturdayâs show at the Roseland, but youâre already dropping at least that much on drugs anyway. (8:30 pm, $22, all ages)
â As the ambient Ethernet, Tim Gray won over the hearts of the experimental scene, both at home and nationally. But as Tanuki House, he shows that heâs got more astringent tastes. Heâll debut his live set of four-on-the-floor on Saturday at the Rose, with tastes ranging from acid house to dub techno. (9 pm, $5, 21+)
