The Belmont Goats are Arriving in Lents This Sunday Morning

"Goats being goats, times are subject to change."

We knew this day would come. And now it has: The Belmont Goats are going to Lents this Sunday, October 5.

The caretakers for the 14 Belmont Goats—including boss lady Duchess, daredevil Cooper, and thieving Chester—announced today that the Belmont Goats will depart their longtime home at Southeast 11th Avenue and Taylor Street for an empty lot in the heart of Lents, at Southeast 91st Avenue and Foster Road.

Starting at 10 am Sunday, community members will join the goats' owners at the Taylor Street property to herd the Belmont Goats onto a caravan heading deep southeast, with the expected cheery arrival at the Lents lot at 11 am. Relocation costs were paid through a Portland Development Commission grant and an Indiegogo campaign that netted over $9,600.

But the Belmont Goats' caretakers offer a caveat to those planning to greet the caravan in Lents: "Goats being goats," they write, "Times are subject to change."

They also shouldn't get too, too comfortable. The property they're staying on is owned by the Portland Development Commission, which has just placed the property up for sale. The PDC's suggested future uses for the goats' new home? "Cheese & Charcuterie," "Urban Farm Supplies" or "Pie and Cupcakes."

Oh, it's a goat's life.
