Welcome to Our 2017 Reasons to Love Portland Issue

We’re not especially happy to be Americans right now. But we’re damn proud to be Portlanders.

So this is a little awkward. It feels weird to be writing anything positive about the current state of the world. Being in the United States really sucks at the moment, and it looks like it's getting worse.

But since we're all stuck here, we feel very lucky to be in Portland.

We begin our annual Valentine to Portland with the most important thing happening in the city right now—the ways in which we're resisting Trump. Sure, we're still really big into frivolous joys like pinball and bootleg Blazer shirts, but we're also helping our homeless neighbors and fighting the new deportation policies. Our little corner of the world is not just home to a new mountain bike trail that'll take you down to the fledgling Republic of California and new architecture worth arguing about, but arguably the most progressive college in America.

We're not especially happy to be Americans right now. But we're damn proud to be Portlanders. Here are 29 reasons why.
